What Is a Thyroid Profile?
A thyroid profile checks how well your thyroid gland is functioning. The thyroid produces hormones that regulate metabolism, energy levels, and many other body functions, so this test helps identify whether it's overactive, underactive, or working normally.
What it measures
A standard thyroid profile usually includes TSH (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone), T3 (Triiodothyronine), and T4 (Thyroxine). TSH is produced by the pituitary gland and signals the thyroid to produce T3 and T4 — looking at all three together gives a clearer picture than any one value alone.
When is it recommended?
Common reasons for a thyroid test include unexplained weight changes, fatigue, hair loss, irregular periods, or a family history of thyroid conditions. It's also frequently used to monitor patients already diagnosed with thyroid disorders or those on thyroid medication.
Preparation
Thyroid tests generally don't require fasting, though your doctor may advise otherwise depending on what else is being tested alongside it. Confirm with our team at the time of booking.
